According to his father and authorities who talked with ABCNews.com, a babysitter in South Carolina was found guilty of abusing a child after the boy’s parents were alerted by their dog that the babysitter was mistreating the child.
Last year, when their dog began to growl and snarl at the babysitter, Alexis Khan, who was 22 years old, the parents of 7-month-old Finn Jordan knew something wasn’t right.
“We saw that the dog grew very hostile toward Alexis when she was present. He would yell indignantly and put himself between her and their son. The back of his neck would stand up on the end, which was a sign that something was awry.
The Jordans developed their doubts about Khan after five months of Khan’s employment with the family. Jordan added that they had done a background check on the woman before hiring her to care for the child while he and his wife were at work and discovered that she had prior babysitting experience.
Killian, a black lab and German shepherd mix, was normally a friendly and quiet dog, but his actions were out of the ordinary.
Finn’s parents allegedly hid an iPhone under the couch in the living room so they could capture audio of Khan in the hopes that they would hear her abusing the puppy, according to the court filings and the authorities.
They were instead shocked by what they heard.
Khan can be heard on the audio hurling insults at the little baby and urging him to “shut the f*** up.” The baby can be heard crying, and there are other sounds that seem like slapping and shaking.
Jordan said, “We just could not believe it.” She immediately ordered the baby to be taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Even though the boy’s medical professionals said he was in perfect health, the authorities were informed. A Charleston police investigator spoke with the woman after initial reservations that an audio recording would not be sufficient to press charges against Khan. During the encounter, the woman gave a full confession.
Nearly a year after the Jordans first began to film Khan, the lady appeared in court in Charleston, South Carolina, and entered a plea of guilty to assault and battery.
Her name will be added to a list of child abusers after the judge gave her the maximum sentence of three years in prison. She will no longer be permitted to work with children in any manner.
“Who knows how many children she has abused or how many more she would have if it weren’t for our dog?” Jordan questioned.
Killian’s heroic journey is not yet over. His training to become a mental service animal is currently underway.
