Knowledge is a treasure that increases by sharing. An open, wide pool of knowledge is like a guiding light for thousands of individuals.

“The larger the island of knowledge, the longer the shoreline of wonder.”
    – Ralph W. Sockman

One such platform, known and recognized for its huge platter of knowledge and information is Bharatpedia. Also known as Indian Wikipedia, Bharatpedia is a free, online encyclopedia.

Efforts are on to re-establish the nation as Vishwaguru. The government has also issued instructions in this direction. For this, more emphasis is being laid on self-reliance and indigenous products and services.

In this sequence, an effort is also being made to establish Wikipedia of India. It is worth noting that Wikipedia is available in the past, but other countries have owned it. In this sequence, some youth have started Bharatpedia to give it an utterly indigenous form. It will be the country’s first encyclopedia.

These youth told that all efforts to become self-reliant are unsuccessful unless we use indigenous services. People’s attention has been on Wikipedia for the truthfulness and correct information of the facts. But now, efforts are being made to change its form, and it should be prepared by Indians, for Indians.

It is run by a community of volunteers who contribute to the website using the wiki-based editing system.

The founders of Bharatpedia pointed out that this is the greatest need of the present. It is a symbol of our nationality, and its use will help us establish ourselves as self-confident. He further informed that it will function entirely like Wikipedia and will help in providing complete information in one place. They’re free to open collaboration, which further increases the depth of this platform.

With its headquarters in Mumbai, India, Bharatpedia follows a completely open approach when it comes to website access. Even the registration is optional, and everyone can utilize the site without any login or sign up.

In recent time, Bharatpedia gained quite popularity among web users due to all its flexible and convenient information-gaining policies. Unlike any other online platform, it is open-source where anyone can share or gather information without creating an account.

Users could also edit the articles. However, certain restrictions were later imposed on editing for a non-registered user. The website is curated in an absolute user-friendly manner, which makes it more prominent among users.

Firstly, it uses easy, and simple Indian English which brings more comfort to the readers. It makes the content more understandable and easily interpretable. Secondly, the website has well-written informative pages, which offer to-the-point elaboration on topics using basic vocabulary.

Further, even the article writers can be free and flexible with their writing skills, because others can fix the errors if any. This motivates new developers to come in and be bold about their write-ups. Both for the readers as well as the writers, it is an amazing opportunity to learn and grow together as a community!
